What to Expect at Your First Appointment

PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

Please fill out the New Patient Case History and bring it with you to your new patient appointment along with your insurance information.

AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

We will ask you to complete evaluation forms which provides the doctor with additional information about your condition. If you would like our office to file health insurance for you, our office manager, Stephanie, will review your insurance plan and explain your chiropractic benefits. Other financial options, such as Preferred Chiropractic Doctor Membership, will also be explained. We encourage you to ask questions at any time during this process.

CONSULTATION

You will then have a consultation with Dr. Chapman. The purpose of the consultation is for the doctors to review your health history and gather additional information about your health-related concerns. They will also answer questions you may have about chiropractic care.

CHIROPRACTIC EXAMINATION

Dr. Chapman will then perform a chiropractic examination which will include orthopedic, neurological and postural evaluations as well as strength and flexibility testing. The doctors will explain each part of the examination.

X-RAYS

To learn more about your condition, x-rays of your spine may also be recommended. If this is the case, you will be scheduled for x-rays at one of the local hospitals, such as Maine Medical Center (Scarborough) or Southern Maine HealthCare (Biddeford).

REPORT OF FINDINGS

After a thorough review of your examination/x-ray findings, the doctors will present a Report of Findings If they determine you are a good candidate for chiropractic care, they will review a customized chiropractic treatment plan designed to achieve good spinal alignment and improve the functioning of your nervous system. If the doctors determine your condition will not respond to chiropractic care, they will refer you to your primary care physician for further evaluation.

In order for you to receive the best results from chiropractic care, rehabilitative exercises, diet/lifestyle modifications and stress-reduction strategies will also be recommended. The doctors will send a narrative report, which outlines your chiropractic treatment plan, to your primary care physician and keep them informed of your progress.

Provided your questions have been answered, you may choose to begin chiropractic treatment by receiving your first chiropractic adjustment. Both Dr. Chapman and Dr. Hood use three low-force adjusting procedures, Logan Basic Chiropractic Technique, Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique, and Impulse Technique.
